The Film is Fabulous Trust
Film is Fabulous! are pleased to announce they are a trust, established through a deed of trust, which can now accept donations. An application to become a registered charity has also been submitted to the Charity Commission. This will enable the trust to offer tax exemptions, such as Gift Aid to U.K. tax-payers, once conferred.
In accordance with the legal obligations a board of trustees, supported by a panel of advisors with specialist knowledge (who have no legal responsibilities), has been appointed to deliver the trust’s primary objective:
- To advance and to encourage public interest, education and training in film as a medium, especially its role within British culture.
The trustees will pursue this stated objective by:
Supporting private film collectors and the U.K.’s film collecting community, by providing advice, guidance, and practical assistance.
Promoting the cataloguing of private film collections (with the requisite permissions), and fulfilling the wishes of collectors and their estates.
Identifying and researching missing, rare and important films, and collaborating with the relevant agencies for their preservation.
Championing the need for recovered films to be screened widely, with affordable licensing agreements through the copyright holders.
- Documenting, through an extensive programme of interviews, the history of film collecting and its cultural impact within Britain.
The trust can accept donations of money and physical goods. These vital contributions will enable the trustees to implement a business plan. This will encompass many of the things learned during the pilot scheme, and will allow Film is Fabulous! to deliver a better, more defined, end-to-end service to film collectors, former industry professionals, and their estates.
The trustees believe that the next 5 years will be critical as, sadly, elderly private collectors and former industry professionals pass away, and their film collections become vulnerable. The pilot scheme showed that no other organisation in the U.K. is acting to preserve films, and our cultural heritage, in a similar manner. The trustees also believe the establishment of the trust provides them with a clear mandate for the work being undertaken, which will be expanded in 2026.
