Organisation
Film is Fabulous! is an organisation run by film collectors, cinema lovers and vintage television enthusiasts. It has five primary aims, designed to support private collectors in the United Kingdom, in order to preserve vulnerable film treasures.
Collections
By working closely with film collectors and their families, the Film is Fabulous! team have been granted access to numerous collections. Many of these belong to former industry professionals, and contain unique film and television items.
Preservation
The work being undertaken by the Film is Fabulous! team has led to several missing episodes of vintage television, and a lost silent feature film, being recovered. These have been returned to the copyright holders for preservation purposes.
Supporters
The Film is Fabulous! team work closely with a host of organisations. Foremost among these are the BBC Archive, the BFI, the regional film archives in England, and the cinema and television historians at De Montfort University (DMU).
Festivals
To encourage interest and support from the public in the preservation of vulnerable film treasures, regular festivals are held. These special events feature screenings of the missing episodes recovered by the Film is Fabulous! team.
Interviews
Film is Fabulous! and De Montfort University are engaged in a research project to conduct oral history interviews with film collectors and former industry professionals, in order to capture their stories and the culture of film collecting.
