Film is Fabulous! and De Montfort University’s Cinema and Television History Institute (CATHI) have recovered several television programmes from the 1960s, which were missing from both the BBC and ITV Archives. The return of three classic BBC shows was announced last week. The programmes found are:
SYKES – Sykes and a Marriage (Broadcast: 1st February 1961)
HUGH AND I – New Year Resolutions (Broadcast: 4th January 1964)
MOGUL [The Troubleshooters] – Is That Tiger, Man? (Broadcast: 30th April 1966)
The three ‘finds’ have been scanned by the BBC Archive, and it is hoped that they’ll be commercially available shortly.
Earlier this week, another missing item from the 1960s was announced. The ATV (and ITC Entertainment) produced music show:
TOM JONES! – Work (Broadcast: 3rd April 1967)
The programme was produced by Alan Tarrant, and the guest star was the American soul singer, Maxine Brown. It will be returned to ITV for scanning.
The above items are just some of the discoveries made by Film is Fabulous! in recent months. Other items will be announced during the forthcoming convention, which will be held at Leicester’s Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre on Sunday, 29th October. A small number of tickets are still available from the Phoenix Box Office. Anyone with an interest in film and vintage television is encouraged to attend.
Film is Fabulous! Preserving film treasures for future generations.
