Extending the Pilot Scheme

The Film is Fabulous! team are delighted to announce that the pilot scheme will be extended, so that it ends on the 30th November 2024, one month later than originally planned. The extension is possible thanks to the continued support of De Montfort University.

Prof. Justin Smith of DMU’s Cinema and Television History research centre said:

‘The unique film collections we have documented so far have produced some invaluable research data, revealed some remarkable discoveries (especially vintage television), and have safeguarded vulnerable items for the benefit of their owners. DMU is delighted to be able to support the extension of the second phase of the pilot study in order to include more collections.’

John Franklin of Film is Fabulous! added:

‘The extension of the pilot scheme, together with the additional funding that has been secured for extra storage space, is fabulous news. It will allow us to catalogue films from a number of other vulnerable private collections, and provide us with the opportunity to refine the work being undertaken.

The first half of the pilot scheme has been completed. The cataloguing of films will be paused until Monday, 2nd September. However, scans of several missing and rare items will be returned to various copyright holders in late August, allowing announcements to be made at the time they are deposited.

Film is Fabulous! Preserving film treasures for future generations.
