ITV Playhouse Recovered!
Film is Fabulous! and De Montfort University’s Cinema and Television History Research Group are pleased to announce the recovery of an episode of vintage Associated-Rediffusion television:
ITV Playhouse: Each Wind That Blows (Broadcast: 15th April 1960)
The episode was based on the play by Pamela Llewellyn, and was adapted for television by Wilfrid Eades and Robert Hall. The tense drama starred Michael Gwynn, Margaret Tyzack, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, and Stratford Johns. It told the story of a man who, having been acquitted of murdering a young woman, returned to face his wife, and her suspicions.
The adaptation of popular stage plays for television was an important part of the weekly broadcast schedule. The ITV Playhouse, which is often simplified to Television Playhouse, first aired on the ITV network in 1955, and ran until 1963. The series was produced by Associated-Rediffusion television. Over 9 seasons, 388 episodes were broadcast.
The recovered episode will be screened at the upcoming vintage television festival, together with a host of other missing and rare items.
