RECOVERED is a celebration of the missing and rare episodes of vintage television found in private collections by the Film is Fabulous! team. The programme is a veritable treasure trove of shows aired in the 1950s and 1960s, which are part of our shared culture.

Saber of London: Four Against Three (Broadcast: 11th November 1959)
Starring: Donald Gray, Neil McCallum, Robert Raglan, and Stella Bonheur.
A recovered episode that was one of the crime detection series produced by brothers Edward J. and Harry Lee Danziger in the 1950s and 60s. The film print was the subject of a preservation project in 2024.

Emergency Ward 10: The Long Small Hours (Broadcast: 29th September 1966)
Starring: John Carlisle, Ian Cullen, David Collings, and Ann Lynn.
This recovered episode is from the ground-breaking hospital drama that is considered British television’s first major soap opera. It was a firm favourite with the public, and became the template for medical shows.

The Third Man: Short Sequences (Broadcast: 1959 and 1965)
Starring: Michael Rennie, Jonathan Harris, Naomi Chance, and Rupert Davies.
Short sequences from three recovered episodes, including ‘The Man Who Wouldn’t Talk’ and ‘The Man With Two Left Hands’, will be screened. The third recovered item will be announced on the day of the festival.

Moonstrike: He Who Tells (Broadcast: 4th July 1963)
Starring: John Bown, Frank Maher, James Bree, and Patricia Healey.
The recovered war drama was one of only 27 episodes aired in a single season. The collection of self-contained stories recounted heroic acts of resistance in occupied Europe during the Second World War.

Starring: Michael Denison, Leslie Dwyer, Virginia Maskell, and Charles Leno.
Short sequences from three recovered episodes, including ‘Findings Keepings’ and ‘Sunday’s Child’, will be screened. The details of the third recovered episode will be announced on the day of the festival.

ITV Playhouse: Each Wind That Blows (Broadcast: 15th April 1960)
Starring: Michael Gwynn, Margaret Tyzack, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, and Stratford Johns.
Based on the play by Pamela Llewellyn, the tense drama tells the story of a man who, having been acquitted of murdering a young woman, returns to his wife, family and friends, and their suspicions of his guilt.
