In the 1960s and 1970s large quantities of videotape and film were wiped or junked by the major television production and broadcasting companies. A significant number of culturally important television programmes from the period were believed to have been lost forever. Fortunately, many of the film prints earmarked for destruction found their way into the hands of private collectors. These television programmes, which were listed as ‘missing’ by the official film archives, were lovingly preserved by their new owners. The episodes remained in these havens for many years. However, as elderly collectors died, their films became vulnerable and required the intervention of the Film is Fabulous! team.

RECOVERED is a celebration of the missing and rare episodes of black and white television found in private collections by the Film is Fabulous! team. The festival will feature:

RECOVERED will be a veritable treasure trove of television from the 1950s and 1960s. The details of the episodes being screened will be announced between now and the event. Rest assured, there are a wealth of precious finds for vintage television enthusiasts to enjoy.
